As promised to all our learner drivers in Buckley, Chester, Connah’s Quay and Ellesmere Port, February’s news is an update so far on the new driving test centre in Chester.

The Last test to be conducted in Chester is on the 24th of February. There will be no more driving test till the 6th March which will be conducted in the new test centre. The address is Unit 16, Dunkirk Trading Estate, Chester Gates, CH1 6LT opposite Costco.

This is still classed as Chester as it has a Chester postcode, but as we all know, it is close to Backford Cross leading to Ellesmere Port and Cheshire Oaks.

So, the Question for every driving Instructor and pupil alike is…”Where will they be going on the test?” Up to now, we can only hazard a guess. They could be using areas in Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, but I personally feel they will not go down as far as the Westminster Bridge in Ellesmere Port. But Cheshire Oaks is within the time frame of a test.

The Question all Driving Instructors are asking is “Will they go back to Chester via the Backford Dip and possibly go to Hoole roundabout or go past the Countess of Chester Hospital or will they turn left at the first set of traffic lights from the new test centre onto Dunkirk Way and travel to Saughall and maybe into Blacon?”

The Driving Test has a limited amount of time and also must be conducted on various types of roads. So the test is not based on the distance you travel but the different types of roads you travel on.

There will be a meeting in early March with the Senior Examiner for all the Driving Instructors to ask questions about the new driving test centre.

I will let you know in March the outcome of the meeting and be able to let you know how it will affect the Learner drivers in Buckley, Chester, Connah’s Quay and Ellesmere Port.
